Tout en travaillant sur les bases cérébrales de la lecture, Johannes Ziegler a consacré ces derniers 20 ans à l’étude de l’apprentissage de la lecture dans différentes langues, la dyslexie et la modélisation computationnelle de la lecture normale et pathologique. Il a publié 170 articles (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=IszHdjAAAAAJ&hl=en), dont des articles dans Science (La lecture chez le babouin), Psychological Review (modélisation de la lecture), Psychological Bulletin (théorie cross-linguistique de l’apprentissage de la lecture) ou PNAS (espacement des lettres chez les enfants dyslexiques). Il a obtenu la médaille de bronze du CNRS. Il a mené une recherche à grande échelle sur l’efficacité d’un outil numérique (GraphoGame) pour accompagner l’apprentissage de la lecture à l’école primaire, notamment pour les enfants en difficultés d’apprentissage dans les zones d’éducation prioritaires (REP, REP+). Il est membre du Csén.
